Hi, everyone. Ricky Chu from Chu’s Packaging Supplies here. One problem that our customers run into a lot is that their water activated tape isn’t sticking. I would say 90% to 95% of the time, it just has to do with the maintenance of the dispenser. Either the water tank is empty, which causes the reservoir to dry up. This results in the tape, not getting enough water to actually activate the adhesive.

Another common problem is the brush getting gunked up. Yes. The technical term is gunked up. After years of use the gummy side of the tape creates a buildup of glue on the brushes. So it actually sticks together when it does that, the water doesn’t apply evenly under the tape, which causes it not to stick properly.

You can fix this really quickly by using a warm soap. Clean it all up. Let it dry out, put it back in the dispenser and you’ll be good. If you’re still having problems with the tape, then it can be a production issue because tape isn’t always perfect, but we’re pretty confident that with this 10 minute machine maintenance, that you’ll be back to taping and shipping and no time.
